"Choose your destiny"
The series Choose Your Destiny explores the fragile boundary between choice and fate in a world often indifferent to human vulnerability.

In Foundling, a woman stands before an abandoned child. Around them, predators gather, and the future hangs in a delicate balance—determined by a single act of compassion or neglect. It asks: in a world where many feel lost and forgotten, who will take responsibility?

In Unexpected Sympathy, a prisoner, condemned for daring to think freely, finds an unexpected connection—not with fellow humans, but with a simple rat. The moment is quiet, yet profound. Here, empathy lives not where one expects it, but where it's most needed.

These paintings challenge the viewer to reflect: do we shape our destiny—or does it find us in the most unexpected places?

The canvas captures the harsh reality of imprisonment for free thought in a dehumanized society. Amidst this desolation, a striking moment unfolds as the observer discovers genuine empathy from an unlikely source – a humble prison rat. The painting raises thought-provoking questions about the intrinsic kindness and humanity residing within animals, juxtaposed against the backdrop of a society that seems to have lost touch with its own humanity.

Oil painting by Nelya Akimova showing a prisoner and a rat sharing empathy in a dehumanized society – a reflection on kindness, freedom of thought, and lost humanity.
